ESL Program

First launched in the summer of 2013, BBFL's free English lessons on Sunday afternoons are popular with Thai neighbors. Offered to children ages 5 and up, the classes cover English basics and include craft projects. Classes for adults are also available.  Depending on their level, children are divided into three groups: Flower Bees, Honey Bees and Bumble Bees.

Through the years, we have had countless volunteers teach at the library's ESL classes, and we're grateful to them all. Pictured at left are dedicated ESL teachers Mike and Liz Lazich and Mai Tripiyachart.

The high school BBFL Club at International School Bangkok regularly sent volunteers to teach children English.  The library also enjoyed support from volunteer translators who helped to facilitate lessons. In the fall 2020 semester, under new guidelines from their school, BBFL Club members have switched to low-contact tasks such as cleaning and organizing the library.

However, the library's ESL program continues with other volunteers from the community, including college students who are still in Thailand and doing online course work with their overseas universities. Under COVID-19 social distancing restrictions, ESL group classes have been replaced with 1-on-1 English tutoring sessions. Lessons are arranged by appointment. Safety procedures are followed, including use of masks, hand gel, temperature scanner, and social distancing.
